Contrast — Although, However & Despite

"Although" / "even though" / "though" introduce a subordinate clause (+ subject + verb): "Although it was raining, we went out." "However" is a sentence connector — it goes at the start of a new sentence or after a semicolon, followed by a comma: "It was raining. However, we went out."
