Privacy Policy
This policy explains what InterActive English collects when you use interactiveenglish.app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what choices you have. We’ve written it in plain language rather than legalese.
Who we are
InterActive English (“we,” “us”) is an online English-learning service operated by Benjamin Pfeifer, a sole proprietor based in the United States. You can reach us at ben@pcityenglish.com with any question about this policy or your data.
What we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we store your email address and, if you provide one, your name. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider, Supabase, and stored only as cryptographic hashes — we never see or store your password in readable form.
Learning activity. To show your progress and personalize practice, we store the exercises you complete, which grammar topics you’ve practiced, your activity dates and streak, practice quizzes you save, vocabulary sessions, and summaries of your writing analyses.
Usage counts. We keep a monthly count of how many AI interactions you’ve used, so we can apply the free plan’s limit.
Billing information. If you subscribe to Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID, your subscription status, your renewal date, and whether a cancellation is scheduled. We never receive or store your card number. Card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers.
Email subscriptions. If you sign up for the daily quiz email, we store your email address and an unsubscribe token.
Product analytics. We use Vercel Analytics for aggregate traffic measurement, and we keep a small first-party log of product events (for example “signed up” or “started checkout”) linked to your account so we can understand which features get used.
Text you submit to AI features
This is the part most worth reading carefully. We use two AI providers, and only one of them ever sees text you wrote:
- Anthropic (Claude) — receives text you write. When you use writing analysis, exercise grading, topic explanations, example sentences, or the vocabulary tools, what you typed is sent to Anthropic so it can generate your feedback.
- Groq — does not receive text you write. It generates practice material in advance (grammar exercises, daily quizzes, weekly reading passages) from our own content and the topic you selected.
We do not store the raw text of your writing submissions. When you run a writing analysis, only the AI-generated summary, the list of suggested grammar topics, and the prompt you were responding to are saved to your account. The original text you wrote is sent to the AI provider to be analyzed, but it is never written to our database.
Your text is processed by Anthropic under its own terms and privacy policy, which we don’t control. Because of that, please don’t paste sensitive personal information — passwords, financial account details, medical information, or government ID numbers — into any AI feature.
What we don’t do
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not run advertising or cross-site tracking. There is no Google Analytics, no Meta/Facebook Pixel, and no ad network code on this site.
- We do not use your submissions to train any AI model of our own.
Cookies
We use essential cookies only. Supabase sets a session cookie so you stay logged in between visits; without it, accounts wouldn’t work. Vercel Analytics measures page views in aggregate and does not use cookies to track you across other websites. We set no advertising or profiling cookies.
Service providers
We share data with a small number of providers strictly so the service can function:
- Supabase — database and authentication
- Vercel — website hosting and aggregate analytics
- Stripe — subscription payments
- Anthropic and Groq — AI processing, as described above
- Resend — sending email (your welcome message, a notice when you reach the free plan’s monthly limit, and the daily quiz if you subscribe to it)
How long we keep data
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Your saved quizzes, vocabulary sessions, and writing-analysis summaries stay until you ask us to remove them or delete your account. If you unsubscribe from the daily quiz email, we keep a record noting that you unsubscribed — that’s how we make sure we don’t email you again.
One exception to deletion: Stripe retains a record of payments you made, and we keep those transaction records, because tax and accounting rules require us to. These are billing records — receipts, amounts, dates — not your learning data, which is erased with your account.
Your choices
- Access or correct your data — email ben@pcityenglish.com and we’ll help.
- Delete your account and data — you can do this yourself at any time from your dashboard, under “Delete my account.” It removes your account, learning history, saved quizzes, vocabulary sessions, and writing-analysis summaries immediately, and cancels any active subscription so you aren’t charged again. It can’t be undone. If you’d rather we handle it, email us instead.
- Stop marketing email — every daily quiz email has an unsubscribe link.
- Manage or cancel billing — use the Manage Subscription button on your dashboard, which opens Stripe’s secure billing portal.
International users
We operate from the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States. Many of our learners are outside the US — if that includes you, using InterActive English means your information is transferred to and handled in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your own country. We honor access, correction, and deletion requests from every user regardless of where you live.
Children
InterActive English is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.
Security
Traffic to the site is encrypted with HTTPS. Learner data sits behind row-level security rules so one account can’t read another’s data, and card details never reach our servers. That said, no online service can promise perfect security, and we won’t pretend otherwise.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we’ll update the date at the top of the page, and for material changes we’ll notify you by email where appropriate.
